Os pais de Wenya separaram quando ela tinha dois anos e depois disso, ela foi morar com seu pai e sua madrasta. A madrasta não a suportava e sempre discutia com seu pai. Ele teve que escolher – Ele mandou Wenya para a casa de sua mãe, mas a mãe estava extremamente focada na administração de seu negócio e não teve tempo para cuidar de Wenya. Então, frequentemente Wenya foi deslocada entre as casas de seus parentes e amigos para ser acolhida. Depois de muitos anos de adoção familiar, a jovem Wenya sentiu-se sozinha e desamparada. O que ela queria era o aconchego de um lar. Apenas quando seu pai e madrasta se divorciaram, ela voltou para sua moradia e daí em diante sentiu-se em casa, para melhor ou pior. Enquanto crescia, Wenya era muito cautelosa, obediente e bastante estudiosa. Mas logo quando ela estava trabalhando duro no preparo para os exames de admissão da faculdade, situações complicadas vieram sobre ela: a mãe teve uma hemorragia cerebral e ficou paralisada e acamada. O padrasto dela abandonou a mãe e assumiu o controle de todos os bens da família. Além de tudo isto, seu pai foi hospitalizado com Câncer no fígado… Wenya não poderia assumir sozinha as obrigações da casa, então tudo o que ela podia fazer era pedir ajuda aos familiares e amigos, mas todos lhe deram as costas.

Assim como Wenya estava sofrendo e sem recursos, duas irmãs da Igreja de Deus Todo-Poderoso, testemunharam para ela e sua mãe sobre a obra de Deus Todo-Poderoso nos últimos dias. Elas compreenderam o motivo do sofrimento e dor na vida das pessoas com base nas palavras de Deus Todo-Poderoso, e entenderam que somente se as pessoas se entregarem a Deus, elas ganharão a proteção Dele e viverão em felicidade plena. Só por meio do conforto das palavras de Deus, mãe e filhas podiam se livrar da dor e do desamparo. Wenya experimentou verdadeiramente o amor e a misericórdia de Deus; finalmente ela sentiu o calor de uma casa e entrou em um verdadeiro lar…

Even When it Hurts is a Praise Song – not exactly in the new-traditional happy-clappy-Sunday-morning sense — no, this is the kind written to sound its loudest in the cold-lonely-silence of the darkest night, or the heart-drenched-desperation of the heaviest of tears. It's a song that finds it’s voice in the moments and seasons where to all common sense and logic, to sing, and be thankful for anything at all, let alone sing a song of praise to God, makes no sense at all - when the fight seems lost and all strength gone with it - when it's hard to even find the words -- louder then, this is that kind of praise song.
